Replacement of protective covers and check of a condition of CV JOINTS
At detection of defects of a protective cover the condition of the corresponding CV JOINT has to be carefully studied. Often on an exchange basis it is possible to get completely restored assemblies of power shafts that considerably simplifies a situation and allows to reduce time expenditure. Before starting dismantle of components, carry out marketing, having found out the prices of necessary spare parts. Compare them to costs of acquisition of the restored assemblies. In shops of automobile accessories it is possible to meet cutting protective covers for CV JOINTS. Installation of such covers does not demand dismantle of a shaft from the car that in principle is very convenient. However, authors of the present manual recommend to remove nevertheless shaft for check of a condition of CV JOINTS and stuffing by their fresh lubricant. |
Components of assembly of a power shaft
1. Remove a power shaft (see Removal and installation of power shafts). 2. Clamp the removed shaft in a vice with soft sponges. Components of assembly of a shaft are given on an accompanying illustration above. |
Internal CV JOINT Dismantling
1a. Cut off bandage tapes of fastening of a cover and shift the last from the hinge to the center of a shaft (see accompanying illustrations). |
1b. Estimate an external condition of the old CV JOINT, in the presence of the slightest doubts the cover should be replaced. |
2. Paint, or by means of a chertilka mark the provision of assembly of the tripodny bearing on the relation to an external holder of the hinge. Remove a holder from the bearing. 3. Remove a spring lock ring from an external pin of a shaft.
4. Fix bearing rollers, having wound them with an adhesive tape (see an accompanying illustration), then bring down tripodny assembly from a shaft, having used the hammer and a brass drift. |
5. Take a lock ring and remove an old protective cover from a power shaft. |
Check
1. Carefully remove lubricant traces from an external holder of the hinge and cavities of the tripodny bearing. Serially, not to mix, remove each of sections of tripodny assembly and wash out rollers of needle bearings solvent. 2. Check rollers, bearings, the bearing part of tripodny assembly and an external holder of the hinge for existence of signs of excessive wear of cavities, zadir, cracks and other mechanical damages. In case of need replace the CV JOINT. |
Assembly
1a. Wrap up vents of a pin of a power shaft an adhesive tape for protection against a new protective cover of CV JOINTS against cuts (see an accompanying illustration). |
1b. Put on a cover a shaft, remove an adhesive tape and put an internal lock ring (see an accompanying illustration). |
2. Put tripodny assembly on a shaft.
3. Record tripodny assembly by an external lock ring (see an accompanying illustration). |
4. Grease with special dense lubricant inside of roller bearings for the purpose of temporary fixing them on the bearing elements of tripodny assembly (see an accompanying illustration). Track that each roller was established strictly on the former place. |
If rollers are equipped a lysky rectangular shape, track that they were established by these lyska to a shaft. |
5. Half fill an external holder of the hinge the lubricant delivered complete with a new cover. The remains of lubricant fill a cover. Establish an external holder on a shaft (see an accompanying illustration). Track correctness of combination of the tags of mutual provision of a holder and the tripodny bearing put in the course of dismantle. |
6. Put cover sponges in flutes on an external holder of the hinge and a body of a shaft, then adjust length of assembly of a shaft according to requirements of Specifications (see an accompanying illustration). |
7. Having exposed shaft length, let out the air from under a cover, having hooked its external (bigger diameter) edge the stupid screw-driver (see an accompanying illustration). Try not to damage a cover. |
8a. Fix a cover by new bandage tapes (see accompanying illustrations): unbend the free end of a bandage tape back. |
8b. Then unbend lock uvulas. |
9. Install assembly of a shaft on the car (see Removal and installation of power shafts). |
External CV JOINT Dismantling
1. Working according to the instructions stated above remove the internal CV JOINT from a power shaft and sort it. 2. If the shaft is equipped with a damper of dynamic loadings, mark with paint the provision of the outer edge of damping assembly concerning a shaft, then cut off a collar and remove a damper. When replacing components it is necessary to track observance of distance between a cover of the internal CV JOINT and a damper (see Specifications). 3. Cut off bandage tapes and remove a protective cover of the CV JOINT from a shaft.
The external CV JOINT is not subject to dismantling and removal from a shaft. |
Check
1. Carefully wash out internal and external CV JOINTS solvent, then dry them with use of compressed air.
When using compressed air do not forget to put on goggles! |
As the external CV JOINT is not subject to dismantling, removal of traces of old lubricant from it and solvent is connected with certain difficulties, however has to be made very carefully. |
2. Turning a hinge casing under various corners, attentively study a condition of balls, holders and a separator of the bearing (see an accompanying illustration). In case of detection of defects replace assembly of a shaft. |
Assembly
1a. Wrap up vents of a pin of a power shaft an adhesive tape for protection against a new protective cover of CV JOINTS against cuts (see an accompanying illustration). Put on a cover a shaft, remove an adhesive tape, then fill the lubricant enclosed in a remnabor in a cover. Give a cover into position and record it new bandage tapes. |
2. Put tripodny assembly on a shaft. 3. Record tripodny assembly by an external lock ring (see an accompanying illustration). 4. At the corresponding complete set establish a damper of dynamic loads of a shaft. Track correctness of combination of the landing tags put in the course of dismantle.
When replacing a shaft take care of observance of the required distance from a damper to the internal CV JOINT (see Specifications). Establish a new fixing collar. |
5. Wash out and collect assembly of the internal CV JOINT. Install assembly of a power shaft on the car (see Removal and installation of power shafts).
