Removal and installation of the main brake cylinder

The failed GTTs is subject to replacement. Manufacturers do not recommend to make attempts of carrying out recovery repair of the main brake cylinder.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. The main brake cylinder is in a motive compartment of the car and is fixed on assembly of the vacuum amplifier of brakes.
2. Pump out from the GTTs tank as the bigger amount of the liquid which is available in it is possible (use the syringe or a rubber pear).
3. Enclose rags under nipple connections and prepare caps or plastic bags for a blockage of the open ends of brake lines for the purpose of prevention of hit in system of dirt.

Brake fluid is among aggressive chemical compounds and at contact with body panels destroys a paint and varnish covering. Before starting implementation of the procedure cover wings and the panel of a front of the car with special covers, or just old blankets.


4. Weaken nuts of nipple knots of connection to GTTs of brake lines (see an accompanying illustration). In order to avoid a rounding off of shlits of nuts give them by means of a special cap key with a cutting head.

5. Having slightly delayed outside, separate brake lines from unions of the main cylinder. At once to a zakuporta open ends of tubes.
6. Disunite the socket of an electrical wiring of the sensor switch of level of brake fluid on the GTTs case, then release two fixing nuts and separate the main cylinder from assembly of the brake amplifier. Remove the cylinder from fixing hairpins and take it from a motive compartment (try not to spill filling the cylinder hydraulic liquid on the painted body panels).

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before installation new GTTs needs to be pumped over on a workbench. For convenience clamp a landing flange of the cylinder in a vice with soft sponges (see an illustration below) – further it is necessary to manipulate at the same time the piston in the cylinder and to watch a stream of the brake fluid which is pushed out via the final union.

2. Connect to the GTTs final unions couple of tubes from special set for pumping (ask in shops of automobile accessories) (see an accompanying illustration).

3. Fill in in the tank fresh brake fluid of the required grade (see the Head Routine maintenance).
4. Slowly push pistons in the cylinder (it will be most convenient to use the big screw-driver with a crosswise sting). Air has to begin to go out of delivery cameras in the tank. At the same time it is important that the ends of both tubes were completely shipped in the brake fluid which is in the tank to exclude probability of a podsasyvaniye it back in the cylinder at an otpuskaniye of pistons.
5. Continue pumping until the liquid which is pushed out through tubes completely is not exempted from air bubbles.
6. Serially disconnect tubes, at once corking the open ends of unions. Close the GTTs tank a cover.
7. Put on GTTs hairpins on assembly of the vacuum amplifier and until only by hand, tighten fixing nuts.
8. Screw unions of brake lines in the cylinder. As the cylinder is not fixed finally yet, its situation can be corrected slightly for the purpose of simplification of the procedure of a vvorachivaniye of unions – try not to strip a thread.
9. Tighten with the required effort of a nut of fastening of GTTs, densely delay nipple connections.
10. Fill in fresh brake fluid in the GTTs tank and pump over the brake system (see Pumping of the brake system). Pumping of GTTs on the car (if did not do it on a workbench) will require the help of the assistant who will manipulate a pedal of a foot brake. Ask the assistant to squeeze out several times a pedal, then to record it in the lower situation. Weaken a nipple nut, producing air mix with brake fluid from the cylinder. Repeat the procedure until the pushed-out liquid completely is not exempted from air bubbles. Working in a similar manner, pump over the second union.
11. Before starting operation of the car, make sure of serviceability of functioning of brakes.
