The electric drive of window regulators – general information and check of serviceability of functioning

The control system of functioning of window regulators consists of switches of management, driving electric motors, regulators of window regulators, mechanisms of lowering lifting of glasses and a connecting electrical wiring. Electric motors of the drive of window regulators are located in car doors.

Control of window regulators can be exercised from the driver's place by means of the main switch, or by means of manipulations with individual door switches. Each of glasses is equipped with an individual driving electric motor of reversive type. Switching of a key of the switch polarity of connection of the motor and, as a result, the direction of its rotation changes.

The contour is protected by a safety lock and the breaker of a chain. Each of electric motors is in addition equipped with the individual breaker preventing a possibility of inactivation of all system when jamming separate glass.

The electric drive of window regulators functions only at the included ignition. In addition on many models the possibility of blocking of window regulators back (and sometimes and a lobby passenger) doors from the main switch is provided. Do not forget about this function when checking refusals of screen wipers.

The described procedures have the most general character therefore if their performance does not allow to establish unambiguously a cause of failure, drive away the car for more detailed diagnostics on car repair shop.

  • In case of refusal window regulators always first of all check a condition of a safety lock and the breaker of a chain.
  • If window regulators of back doors are controlled only from the main switch, check conductivity of the blocking switch in the released state. Replace the faulty switch.
  • Check a condition of an electrical wiring on the site of a chain between switches and the assembly block of safety locks. Make necessary repair.
  • At refusal of functioning of the main switch of only one of glasses, check serviceability of operation of this window regulator from other switch.

    The last does not belong to a window regulator of a driver's door.


  • If the same window regulator regularly works from other switch, check conductivity of the switch.
  • If the switch as it should be, check for break and short circuit a chain on the site between the suspected switch and a driving electric motor of this window regulator.
  • If the window regulator does not work from both switches, remove the panel of an internal upholstery from this door and check presence of tension both on the switch, and on the driving motor (at the relevant provision of the switch) (see an accompanying illustration).

  • For assessment of a condition of the switch check it according to the provided instructions.
  • At correct giving of food on an electric motor separate glass from the window regulator regulator (see the Head Kuzov). Move glass up-down, checking freedom of its movement. Also check serviceability of a condition of the regulator. If the regulator is normal, and glass freely moves in both directions, replace a driving electric motor. At violation of smoothness of movement of components eliminate the found hindrances, grease the rubbing knots and replace the damaged details.

The driving electric motor is built in assembly of the regulator of a window regulator which description of the procedure of removal is provided in the Head Kuzov.

  • If food on the motor does not move, check for conductivity existence an electrical wiring on the site of a chain between switches and motors (in case of need address schemes of electric connections at the end of the present Chapter). If the contour is equipped with the executive relay, check serviceability of food and grounding of the last.
  • Having made necessary corrections, repeat check of functioning of window regulators.
